TCP/IP Help

This page enables you to configure the printer's host name, IP mode, IP address, gateway address, DNS Server Address, and WINS Server address.

Note: Changing settings here overwrites existing IP settings stored in the printer. Contact your network administrator before changing TCP/IP settings.

IP Mode - Select IPv4, IPv6, or Dual Stack as the IP Mode setting. The IP Mode selected determines the available settings on the TCP/IP page.

Host Name - Enter the Host Name. The Host Name can be up to 47 alphanumeric characters in length, and can include hyphens (-). This setting is available for all IP modes.

IPv4

These settings are available for IPv4 or Dual Stack modes:

Get IP Address - Select the method of obtaining the IPv4 address, network mask, and gateway address by selecting one of the following options:

  • Manual - The addresses specified on the TCP/IP page are used. The IPv4 address, network mask, and gateway address entered on this page must be valid.
  • DHCP - The addresses are automatically set via DHCP. When this option is selected, addresses entered on the TCP/IP page are ignored.
  • BOOTP - The addresses are automatically set via BOOTP. When this option is selected, addresses entered on the TCP/IP page are ignored.
  • RARP - The addresses are automatically set via RARP. When this option is selected, addresses entered on the TCP/IP page are ignored.
  • DHCP/AutoIP - The addresses are automatically set via DHCP/AutoIP. When this option is selected, addresses entered on the TCP/IP page are ignored.

IP Address - Enter the printer's IPv4 address. The format is x.x.x.x, where x represents a decimal number from 0 - 255. The value entered must be a valid IP address and not 0.0.0.0, 255.255.255.255, or any address starting with 127 or 224-254.

Network Mask - Enter the network mask. The format is x.x.x.x, where x represents a decimal number from 0 - 255.

Router / Gateway Address - Gateway addresses are used to communicate with devices not on the same network segment. Enter the gateway host IP address. The gateway host address is the address of a host that is used to retransmit the packets from the current network segment to another network segment. The format is x.x.x.x, where x represents a decimal number from 0 - 255. The value entered must be a valid address and must not start with 127 or 224-254.

IPv6

These settings are available for IPv6 or Dual Stack modes:

Enable Manual Address - Select the Enabled checkbox to enter the IPv6 address manually.

IP Address - Enter the IPv6 address and prefix length in these fields. In the first field, the IPv6 address should be hexadecimal digits delimited by the : character, and can be up to 39 characters in length. In the second field, prefix length can be a number from 0-128.

Automatically Configured Address 1-3 - If they exist, automatically configured IPv6 addresses display in these fields. Addresses can be assigned automatically when a router is found and it offers one or more prefixes. Automatically assigned addresses are routable.

Link-Local Address - The Link-Local Address that the printer has assigned to itself displays in this field. A Link-Local address is not routable.

Gateway Address - Enter the Gateway Address in this field. This address should be hexadecimal digits delimited by the : character, and can be up to 39 characters in length.

Automatically Configured Gateway Address - If it exists, an automatically configured Gateway Address displays in this field.

DNS

Use these settings to reference servers, such as email servers, by name.

DNS Domain Name - Enter the DNS domain name. DNS domain name can be up to 255 alphanumeric characters in length, and can include periods (.) and hyphens (-). This setting is available for all IP modes.

IPv4

These settings are available for IPv4 or Dual Stack modes:

Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically - Select the Enabled checkbox to automatically set the DNS server address using DHCP. When this checkbox is selected, DNS information entered in the following field is ignored.

DNS Server Address - Enter the DNS Server Address. The format is x.x.x.x, where x represents a decimal number from 0 - 255. The value entered must be a valid address and must not start with 127 or 224-254.

Dynamic DNS Registration (IPv4) - Select this checkbox to enable DDNS.

IPv6

These settings are available for IPv6 and Dual Stack modes:

Obtain IPv6 DNS Server Address Automatically - Select the Enabled checkbox to automatically set the DNS server address using DHCPv6. When this checkbox is selected, DNS information entered in the following field is ignored.

DNS Server Address - Enter the DNS Server Address. This address should be hexadecimal digits delimited by the : character, and can be up to 39 characters in length.

Dynamic DNS Registration (IPv6) - Select this checkbox to enable DDNS. Information is sent to the DHCPv6 server so that it can register the printer's Hostname with DNS. If dynamic DNS is prohibited by the server, this setting is ignored even if the checkbox is selected.

These settings are available for all IP modes:

Auto Generation of Search List - Select the Enabled checkbox to automatically create the domain search list.

Search Domain Name - Enter the domain name to be searched. Search domain name can be up to 255 alphanumeric characters in length, and can include periods (.) and hyphens (-).

Connection Time-Out - Enter the amount of time allowed before the connection times out. The value entered must be between 1 and 60 seconds.

DNS Resolution via IPv6 First - Select this checkbox to prefer IPv6 addresses when both IPv6 and IPv4 addresses are available. This field is available when Dual Stack IP Mode is selected.

WINS Server

These settings are available for IPv4 and Dual Stack modes:

Get WINS Server Address - Select the DHCP checkbox to automatically set the WINS server address using DHCP. When this checkbox is selected, WINS Server information entered in the following fields is ignored.

Primary WINS Server Address - Enter the address for the primary WINS name server. The format is x.x.x.x, where x represents a decimal number from 0 - 255. The value entered must be a valid address and must not start with 127 or 224-254. A value of all zeros indicates that no server is configured. If both primary and secondary name servers are undefined, the printer broadcasts (peer-to-peer) name recognition.

Secondary WINS Server Address - Enter the address for the secondary WINS name server.

When you are satisfied with your selections, click Save Changes to keep the settings or Discard Changes to keep the previous settings. The settings become active after you save the changes, and then restart the printer from CentreWare IS or by manually switching it off and then on again.
