We bought this machine June 2008 and have had threee major service issues. First the ink did not work properly and something had to be replace at a cost of $900 and then another issue cost us $300 and now we are told that the print head is bad and needs to be replaced for $1900. We print less than 1000 copies per month on this machine as it is only used for color flyers and check printing. How does Xerox expect a customer to pay almost $4300 for a copier, printer and not get but four years of service? We have a Cannon copier, printer, fax machine that is over 10 years old, making in excess of 10,000 copies per month, and never had a major repair. I bought the Xerox machine for my office and one for my home for two reasons, product quality and reputation of the company.
I really liked it when it worked - which was for about 21 days. Had 4 parts replaced and 6 service calls within the first 2 months. And when one thing went wrong, you couldn't use ANY of the functions - no fax, no copier, no printer, no scanner. For that reason I'd never buy a multifunction machine again. Even being out of ink meant the entire thing stopped working. Maybe it was a lemon, but we have switched models entirely. To Xerox's credit, they have cheerfully addressed the issue, so I'm happy with the service there. And I generally have had positive experiences with Xerox products in the past. I did like the solid ink, though it consumed it rather quickly. Print quality was very nice, though it did tend to waste paper and ink by printing a status page every time the machine was shut off and turned back on again.
My Phaser 8860MFP lived up to all the hype I had read. The quality of print is outstanding, the colours are exceptional for brightness and accuracy (i.e. a red is a red!). On production speed, the machine is exceptional. I would highly recommend this unit to any business with a steady volume of printing to produce. My business requires short bursts of printing, occasionally with high volume, and with hours and on occasion days of no need for printing at all. This printer with its ink technology requires fairly steady use to functional optimally. And, if you have that kind of printing requirement, this printer should be your choice. It is phenomenal.
Hello, we are very happy with our Phaser for our office. the speed could be a bit quicker - seems that the printer needs to warm up frequently throughout the day.
Upsides -- no longer buying expensive print cartridges, and we saved a lot of money making our own brochures and handouts, instead of sending them to the printer. Downsides -- don't like the continual warmup periods (nearly every time I print something) Overall -- a 4.
