PCL Help

Orientation - This field enables you to manually configure the paper orientation used when printing PCL or text files. This value is the default when the printer driver does not specify Orientation within the print job. The default value is Portrait. Supported values are:

  • Portrait
  • Landscape

Line Termination - This field enables you to manually configure what line endings will be used when printing PCL or text files. This value is used when the printer driver does not specify Line Termination within the print job. The default value is On.

  • On
  • Off

Font Number - This field enables you to manually configure the default font to use when printing PCL or text files. This value is used when the printer driver does not specify Font Number within the print job. The supported values correspond to the fonts supported by the printer. The number entered must correspond to a valid PCL font within the range of 0 to 80. The default value is 0, which corresponds to Courier. Font Number displays with the font on the PCL Font List. To print the PCL Font List, click the Print tab in CentreWare IS, click the radio button next to PCL Font List, and then click the submit button on the page. See the PCL Font List to determine which fonts are proportional and which are not.

Point Size - This field enables you to manually configure the Point Size for the default font when printing PCL or text files. This value is used when the printer driver does not specify Point Size within the print job. Supported values are floating point numbers between 4.0 and 999.75. If the value entered is not a multiple of 0.25, the control panel truncates the Point Size to the next lower multiple of 0.25. The default value is 12.00. If the printer uses a fixed pitch font, this value is ignored.

Font Pitch - Font Pitch, also known as characters per inch (CPI), enables you to manually configure Font Pitch when printing PCL or text files. This value is used when the printer driver does not specify Font Pitch within the print job. The supported values are floating point numbers between 0.44 and 99.99. If the value entered is not a multiple of 0.05, the control panel truncates the Font Pitch to the nearest multiple of 0.05. The default value is 10.00. If the printer uses a proportional font, this value is ignored.

Form Length - This field enables you to manually configure the maximum number of lines allowed per page when printing PCL or text files. This value is used when the printer driver does not specify Form Length within the print job. The supported values are from 5 to 128.

Symbol Set - This field enables you to manually configure the PCL Symbol Set to be used when printing PCL or text files. This value is used when the printer driver does not specify the PCL Symbol Set within the print job. The symbol sets supported on the printer are listed in the drop-down menu for this field. Some of the supported values include:

  • Roman-8
  • PC-8
  • ISO Latin Cyr
  • ISO 69 (French)
  • Legal

Draft Mode - This field enables you to select the default print resolution or Draft Mode. The default value is Off. Supported values are:

  • On
  • Off

Color Mode - This field enables you to specify the color mode used when printing PCL or text files. The default value is Color. Supported values are:

  • Color
  • Black and White

Wide A4 - This field enables you to increase the printable width on A4 paper to 8 inches. The default value is Off.

  • On - Increases the printable width on A4 paper to 8 inches.
  • Off - Does not increase the printable width on A4 paper.
