Printer Defaults

This page allows you to view or set general printer settings. Making these settings from this page is equivalent to making the corresponding settings from the printer's front panel, which means the settings are retained in the printer's memory and are overridden on a job-by-job basis by settings made from the printer driver.

Startup Page

  • Enabled: A Startup Page prints every time the printer is reset.
  • Disabled: The Startup Page is not printed.

PhaserLink Status Refresh Delay

The value in this field controls how often the information on the Status page is updated.

Front Panel Menus

  • Enabled: The front panel displays all menus and allows full access to the settings.
  • Disabled: Limits the menu items displayed on the front panel, preventing users from changing front panel settings that may affect the prints of other users. Users cannot access the Default Printer Settings menu, Advanced Printer Settings menu, and Network Settings menu.

System Start Job

This field is displayed if the printer is equipped with an optional hard disk.

  • Enabled: Enables automatic execution of a file named SysStart (if one is found) on a hard disk connected to the printer's SCSI port, each time the printer is turned on or reset.
  • Disabled: Disables automatic execution of the SysStart file.

Driver Settings

These settings are overridden by Tektronix drivers. If you are not using Tektronix drivers, make these settings on this page.

Print Quality

Select a Print Quality mode depending on your printing needs. These modes affect the appearance of your prints and the time they take to print.

  • Fast Color: Fastest color print mode.
  • Standard: General-purpose mode for color printing. Transparencies are always printed in Standard mode even if another mode is selected.
  • Enhanced: Produces superior text resolution and very smooth light colors.
  • High Resolution/Photo: Produces highest-quality color prints with near photographic detail. Uses 1200 x 600 dpi. This mode requires the printer's Plus (DP) or Extended Features (DX) options.

Image Smoothing

Image Smoothing blends adjacent colors in low-resolution images for smoother color transitions. For example, use Image Smoothing to improve the appearance of a 72-dpi image downloaded from the World Wide Web. Image Smoothing is not recommended for 300-dpi or higher images.

2-Sided Printing

You can choose to print on both sides of a sheet of paper.

NOTE
2-sided Printing requires the printer's Plus (DP) or Extended Features (DX) options.

  • Print on 1-side: Prints only on one side of a sheet of paper. Make sure to use this selection when printing on transparencies; see Paper Source.
  • Print on 2-sides: Prints on two sides of a sheet of paper so the image is right-side up on each side. Make sure Letter or A4 is selected as the Paper Size in the driver. (Side 1=UP Side 2=UP)
  • Bind on top edge: Prints on two sides of a sheet of paper so the image is printed top-to-bottom on each side. (Side 1=UP Side 2=DOWN)

TekColor Correction

These are the color corrections designed for your printer. They include options for matching the printer's colors as closely as possible to colors on other devices, such as your computer screen or a printing press.

Tip: Vivid Color is the best choice for printing transparencies. When any other option is selected with transparencies, None is used.

  • Automatic: Optimizes colors for each element (text and graphics) on the page. Best all-purpose selection.
  • None: No color correction applied. Use with PANTONE colors or when no correction is desired.
  • SWOP Press: Specification for Web Offset Publications. Use to match U.S. press standards.
  • Euroscale Press: Use to match equivalent Imation Matchprint proofs.
  • Commercial Press: Use to match commercial Imation Matchprint proofs. Best choice for comps.
  • Vivid Color: Produces the brightest possible colors. Makes blue colors appear less purple. Use when printing transparencies.
  • sRGB Display: Closest match to computer screen colors.
  • Toyo: Use to match commercial Toyo printing inks on coated paper.
  • FujiProof: Use to match the Fuji Color Art System for commercial North American proofs.
  • DIC: Use to match Dai Nippon printing inks on coated paper.
  • SNAP Press: Specifications for Non-Heat Advertising Printing. Use to match standards for printing on uncoated and newsprint papers.
  • Black and White: Prints all colors as gray scale.

Paper Source

Select a media type or the tray you want to print from.

NOTE
If you have multiple trays containing the same media, and you select AutoSelect Tray or Paper, the printer uses the upper tray until it is empty, moving to the other trays as needed.

  • AutoSelect Tray: The printer takes paper from a tray loaded with the paper size currently selected in the driver's Paper Size field.
  • Paper: The printer takes paper from a tray loaded with paper.
  • Transparency: Load transparencies in the upper tray only. Set 2-Sided Printing to Print on 1-side.
  • Upper: The printer takes paper or transparencies from the upper tray.
  • Middle: The printer takes paper from the middle tray.
  • Lower: The printer takes paper from the lower tray.
  • Manual Feed Paper: The printer takes paper from the manual feed slot. Select this option when loading envelopes.
  • Manual Feed Transparency: The printer takes transparencies from the manual feed slot. Set 2-Sided Printing to Print on 1-side.

Timeout Settings

These settings control when print jobs or printer features are discarded.

1st Page Preview Timeout

The 1st Page Preview option in the printer driver causes the printer to pause after printing the first page of a multiple-page print job. This allows you to check the colors or print quality before continuing with the rest of the job. After checking, you can resume or cancel printing from the printer's front panel. Printing resumes automatically after the time period specified in this field. Selecting Unlimited causes the printer to pause indefinitely until it receives a command from the front panel.

Job Timeout

The value in this field determines how long the printer waits during an interrupted print job before ending the job. Enter a value in seconds. A value of 0 indicates no timeout; that is, the printer does not time out on an interrupted job. The value entered must be between 0 and 65535.

Wait Timeout

The value in this field determines how long the printer waits for expected data during a print job. If the printer does not receive expected data within the specified period of time after the job is started, the printer cancels the job. Enter a value in seconds. A value of 0 indicates no timeout; that is, the printer does not time out while waiting for data. The value entered must be between 0 and 65535.

Manual Feed Timeout

The value in this field determines how long the printer waits for paper to be inserted into the manual feed slot for a manual feed print job. If paper is not inserted within the specified period of time after the job is sent to the printer, the printer attempts to pick paper from one of the paper trays. Enter a value in seconds. A value of 0 indicates no timeout; that is, the printer does not time out while waiting for paper to be inserted. The value entered must be between 0 and 65535.
