Shipping a Phaser® 480 and 480X Printers
|
|
Follow the steps below if you are sending your printer to Tektronix®
for service.
- Obtain a Return Authorization Number (RMA#) from the Tektronix Service Center.
In the U.S. and Canada call 1-800-835-6100. Outside the U.S. and Canada, contact
your local Tektronix dealer or sales representative; see the Local Contacts list on the World
Wide Web.
Note: You must have a Return Authorization Number (RMA#) before returning
a printer. You will need to write this Return Authorization Number (RMA#)
on all cartons you ship to Tektronix.
- Locate the original Tektronix printer, accessories and consumables carton(s)
and packing materials.
Note: You must ship the printer in its Tektronix
shipping box. If you do not have the original carton and packing materials,
call the Customer Support Hotline in the U.S. at 1-800-835-6100 or the Supplies
phone number in Canada at 1-800-661-5625 to order replacement packaging using
part number 065-0546-00.
Packing Instructions
- Turn off the printer; remove all cords and cables.
- Slide the cover release to open the top cover.
- Remove the paper tray and repack it for shipping:
- Insert the two small foam shipping blocks into the paper tray on either
side of the metal plate.
- Secure the cover to the paper tray. Use masking tape.
- Insert the "C"-shaped clamp onto the paper tray.
Note : If you are shipping the printer for service on a problem unrelated
to the paper tray, you do not need to return the paper tray.
.
- Remove the transfer roll tray; remove the transfer roll from the tray and
wrap the tray in packing material.
- Insert the medium-sized foam shipping block inside the printer, behind the
paper guide.
- Attach the long foam shipping block to the paper clamp bar:
- Use the black rubber belt to move the paper clamp bar so that it is
positioned directly over the label: Position paper clamp bar HERE to
clear a paper jam.
- Insert the shipping block under the paper clamp bar.
- Use the two tie-wraps to secure the block to the paper clamp bar. Attach
the tie-wraps on the right-hand side where there is open space beneath
the paper clamp bar. Make sure that the tie-wraps are tightly secured.
.
- Place the two rubber cushions, marked L (left) and R (right),
onto the metal bar on either side of the platen. Make sure that the rubber
cushions are positioned with the posts upright (or leaning slightly forward)
and facing outward as shown.
Caution: The rubber cushions protect the thermal head. If the cushions
are positioned incorrectly, the thermal head will be damaged in shipping.
- Replace the transfer roll tray inside the printer.
- Close the top cover; the thermal head must be resting on the rubber cushions.
- Secure the top cover closed; use masking tape. .
- Repack the printer in the Tektronix carton. Keep the printer level when
moving it.

this sheet to the top of the printer with adhesive tape.
- Write the Return Authorization Number (RMA#) on the outside of all cartons.
- Ship the printer (and consumables and accessories, if requested by Tektronix
