NetWare Settings Help

NetWare is a software product that runs on a variety of LANs which provides users and programmers with a consistent interface independent of the actual hardware used to transmit messages.

NetWare - Allows you to enable and disable the protocol. NetWare is set to On as the default.

Status Message - This field displays the current NetWare printer status.

Connection Mode - Select Directory Services or Bindery. The default value for this field is Directory Services.

Print Server Name - This field contains the current Print Server Name. To change the name, enter a valid NetWare print server name. The new name takes effect the next time the print server or printer is reset. The Print Server Name must be 47 characters or less. The combination of Print Server Name and NDS Context must be 510 characters or less.

Queue Scan Interval - Use this field to change the interval at which the printer polls for jobs. The value entered must be between  1 and 3600 seconds. The default value is 15 seconds.

Banners

  • On - Banner pages print with each job.
  • Off - Banner pages will not print.

Banner pages print if banners are set to On at the file server, even if banners are set to Off in the printer.

Page Description Language - Select the language you want the printer to receive on the print server port. If you choose AutoSelect, the printer automatically detects the language of the print job and processes it accordingly.

Filtering - This field allows you to select whether or not the printer strips out control characters. Options are InterpreterBased or None. In most cases, Filtering should be set to None.

NDS Tree - This field contains the NetWare Directory Services Tree that the printer looks for when connecting to file servers on the network. The NDS Tree must be entered into this field if the printer is in NDS mode. The maximum length is 47 characters. This parameter field does not display if Connection Mode is set to Bindery.

NDS Context - This field contains the NetWare Directory Services Context that the printer looks into when connecting to file servers on the network. The combination of Print Server Name and NDS Context must be 255 characters or less. This field is available only when Directory Services is selected, and is not displayed if Connection Mode is set to Bindery.

File Server - The File Server text field contains the name of the file server to a maximum of 47 characters. If Connection Mode is set to Directory Services above, this field does not display.

Login Password - Use the field to specify a password to use when logging in to the file server. The maximum length for the password is 47 characters.

Frame Types

You can enable any and all frame types, but at least one must be enabled. The Network Number field reports the last power-up value of the Network Number bound to that frame type. If a Frame Type is disabled at power-up, the Network Number is displays as Not Bound.

IPX Frame Type - Select the desired IPX Frame Type from the drop down box. Allowed values include Ethernet 802.2, Ethernet 802.3, Ethernet II, Ethernet SNAP, and Adaptive. The default value is Adaptive.

IPX Current Frame Type - Displays the IPX Frame Type that is currently selected in the printer.

Network Number - The last value of the network number bound to the IPX Current Frame Type shows here.
