Job Accounting Help

Job Accounting collects and reports information about all the jobs that print. The collected information identifies the submitter of the job and the resources used to print the job. The Job Accounting Record (JAR) contains information such as the User Name, Host Name, File Name, Job Name, Job Start Time, Job End Time, etc.

Note: The actual values reported vary depending on the Protocol and printer driver used when each job was printed. For example, using NPRINT over NetWare provides the printer with the most information about the job being printed. When using Windows and NetWare, the job name is often LST: or LST:BANNER. Other jobs from other ports may provide even less information about the job.

Job accounting records are stored in Job Accounting Record files, or JAR files. For networked printer configurations without hard drives, up to 50 job records can be stored. For networked models with more RAM, up to 500 job records can be stored. With an attached hard drive, the printer can store a maximum of 5,000 job records.

  • To view job accounting records, click Browse Job Accounting Records. The resulting page displays the 10 oldest job accounting records with links at the bottom to pages containing the remaining records. A maximum of 10 jobs display per page. This feature can be password protected. For more detail see Browse Job Accounting Records .
  • To save job accounting records, click Download All Job Accounting Records. This action downloads the job accounting log file, but preserves the job summary list stored by the printer. This page displays the job accounting log file in plain text format; you can save the data directly to the hard drive for use in other applications. This feature can be password protected.
  • To delete job accounting records, click Clear All Job Accounting Records. This clears the printer's job summary list and clears all job accounting records in the printer. This feature can be password protected.

Note: To manage access to and prevent accidental deletion of printer Job Accounting information, access the Administrator Security Settings page from the Properties tab and set user access rights.
