  1. INK LEVEL: Three icons that show how much ink is in the printer. Refer to the illustration via the number hot link. The front panel displays one icon for each of the printer's four ink wells. The three icons have the following meaning:
    1. Empty
    2. Half-full
    3. Full
  2. PRINTER STATUS: Messages about the printer and actions required, if any.
  3. UTILITIES: Press this button to access the Utilities mode, which is used to see how many prints the printer has made, to clean the printer, to clean the fuser, to adjust head convergence, or to empty the waste bin.
  4. CLEAN PRINT HEAD: Press this button to clean the printhead. Refer to "Print quality problems" for details on using this button. When in the Utilities mode, this button makes a selection of a specific function or changes a setting.
  5. TEST PRINT: Press this button to print a basic test pattern, which consists of a color bar and vertical lines. The bars represent the seven basic colors: red, green, blue, black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. The vertical lines let you know that the ink-jet nozzles on the printhead are functioning properly. Refer to "Test print example" for more details. When in the Utilities mode, this button allows you to scroll through a series of options.

  6. ERROR: An indicator that lights up when the printer detects an error condition such as a paper jam.
  7. POWER: An indicator that lights up when the printer is on and blinks when the printer processes data.
  8. INK COVER: Open the ink cover to load the ColorStix ink. For details on how to load ink, see "Adding ink".
  9. INK LOAD LEVER: After dropping an ink stick into the ink loading bin, close the cover and pull down on the lever, then release it so that the ink drops into the printhead. For details on how to load ink, see "Adding ink".
