Setting head convergence
When you make a print, a vertical line should appear straight. If the vertical line is not straight, you can use the Utilities mode (through the UTILITIES button on the front panel) to adjust the head convergence, slightly.

You can check the head convergence by making a test print with the TEST PRINT button.

Test print example

The test print shows four head convergence test patterns.

  1. An example of good head convergence.
  2. Head convergence needs adjusting: negative offset adjustment needed.
  3. Head convergence needs adjusting: positive offset adjustment needed.
  4. One pattern looks good, but the other two are misaligned. Call your nearest Tektronix dealer or, in the United States, call Tektronix service at 1-800-547-8949.

    To correct the head convergence:

  1. Press the TEST PRINT button to make a test print.
  2. Examine the head convergence test patterns on the test print.
  3. When the Ready message appears in the front panel, press the UTILITIES button to enter Utilities mode and adjust the head convergence. You see this message (Vx.xx is the software version number):

    Utilities Vx.xx
    Exit Next

  4. Press the TEST PRINT button several times until the Head convergence message appears in the front panel. (In this example, nn represents the current setting.)

    Head convergence <nn>
    Change Next

  5. Press the CLEAN PRINT HEAD button to change the settings for the head convergence. The choices, in increments of 1/4-pixel,
    are 0, +1, +2, +3, +4, -4, -3, -2, -1, and 0.

In the following example, select a higher number than the current setting to move the center line to the right. For example, if the current setting is 0, select +1.

If the head convergence test pattern resembles the following example, select a number that is lower than the current setting to move the center line to the left. For example, if the current setting is +0, select -1. (Factory default is 0.)

If the proper head convergence cannot be achieved by using the -4 to +4 range, there may be a problem with the printer. Call your dealer or Tektronix service.

  6. Press the TEST PRINT button several times to return to this message.

    Utilities Vx.xx
    Exit Next

  7. Press the CLEAN PRINT HEAD button to exit the Utilities mode.
  8. Make another test print to check the results.
