Phaser 300X

Using Black Substitution
Each of the color correction options include Black Substitution. This feature takes each dot of composite black (printed with equal amounts of cyan, magenta, and yellow inks), or black plus any other ink, and prints with black ink only, saving ink and producing a "blacker" or pure black. In images where you have specified black areas as a percentage of cyan, magenta, and yellow, the printer uses that same percentage of black ink only.

If you prefer the brownish composite black, or if you want more color in a dark area, then turn off Black Substitution.

To turn off Black Substitution in a color correction option, follow these steps:

  1. Install the printer's utility files:
  2. Download the color correction utility file you want to the printer, then, download the Black Substitution (BLACKSUB.PS) utility file to the printer.
  3. If you are printing from a supported driver, select the Use Printer Setting option under Color Corrections; see "Selecting color corrections from a printer driver" for details. To turn Black Substitution back on, download the Black Substitution (BLACKSUB.PS) utility file to the printer.
